Fundraiser on Monday June 14, 2010
Cape Coral, Florida — June 10, 2010 — Cape Coral restaurant Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon, located at 2121 SW Pine Island Rd, is planning a fundraising event on Monday, June 14, 2010 for C.A.R.E.S Suicide Prevention. Bubba’s will donate a percentage of restaurant sales for Monday June 14, 2010 during their normal operating hours of 11:30am to 10:00pm to C.A.R.E.S. Guests will also have the opportunity to donate directly to C.A.R.E.S.
C.A.R.E.S. (Community Awareness in Recognizing and Educating on Suicide) Suicide Prevention is based in Cape Coral. The mission of the organization is to prevent suicide through education and provide support to families affected by suicide. C.A.R.E.S. was founded in 2008 by Virginia Cervasio following the suicide of her 24 year old son.
Suicide Stats:
Every 15.4 minutes someone takes their life in the United States.
2009 Lee County had 106 completed suicides ranging from 12 years old to 96
Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15-24
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college aged students
In addition to a 24-hour phone line (800-273-TALK), C.A.R.E.S. also operates a resource center in Cape Coral serving the Southwest Florida area. According to Pedro LaTorre, C.A.R.E.S. program director, “C.A.R.E.S. is saving lives one at a time."
“This is a great opportunity to reach out and do our part to help those suffering in Lee County who are thinking about suicide,” said Jay Johnson, Owner of Bubba’s Roadhouse. “Too many people think there is no one to turn to when things get tough. C.A.R.E.S. provides this valuable service to our community and those in need.”
Founded in 1992 in Cape Coral, Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon has been a strong supporter of local and national charities. Open for lunch and dinner daily, the restaurant features hand-cut steaks, barbecue ribs, hamburgers and “Bubbaritas”.
