My Favorite Steak

One of the questions I get asked over and over is "What is your favorite steak?" I guess it has something to do with the hand-cut steaks we serve at Bubba's or it could be because of the all of the different types of steaks on the menu. Either way it is a very common question. However there is not an easy answer to it. Don't get me wrong I do have a favorite but there are many things that have to be taken into account to answer this all important question.

First and foremost, I always say that the true flavor of a steak comes from the fat content of the steak. Now these days this is not a very popular answer, but it is true. The Ribeye steak tends to have the highest fat content of all the steaks and this is what gives it great flavor. While the Filet Mignon, on the other hand has the least. In order to make up for this lack of fat many restaurants, including Bubba's, wrap the Filet in Bacon to give some fat (flavor) to this very tender steak. In between these two steaks are the New York Strip, which has a thin fat covering across the top and the Sirloin steak which has small amount of fat. Both of these are great steaks and very popular in part because of the flavor created by the fat content.

Second, my choice of steak also tends to reflect my mood. A Ribeye steak to me is comfort food and cooked right (for me this means medium-rare with a crispy exterior) also puts me in a good place. A New York Strip, Sirloin or Filet will have the same effect but the Ribeye is the sure thing.

And finally the other factor in my steak selection is basic and boring. The size of the steak. The Filets tend to be some the smaller steaks on the menu, which is driven by the cost per pound. As the Filet is usually the most expensive meat a restaurant uses the portions tend to be smaller to get the right price point. Not to sound all technical, but that's why. So what does this mean? If I'm hungry I'll bypass the Filet and go for a larger steak, no fault of the Filet.

So after all this thought and reflection what the answer to the question "What's your favorite steak?"

The Ribeye

Welcome Back

After taking a three year break from my blog I have decided to brush off the dust and get busy. First I would like to thank Robin, a big Bubba's fan and the founder and CEO of Partnership Marketing (here is one of her sites www.writers-elite.com) for pushing me to blog again. I have never met Robin in person but have connected with her and many others through Facebook (www.facebook.com/bubbasroadhouse) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/bubbasroadhouse) where Bubba's has an online pressence.

As we start to head into our season here in beautiful Southwest Florida all of us at Bubba's Roadhouse are gearing up to welcome back all our snowbird friends and look forward to making some new ones. As the snowbirds arrive, almost without fail they all want to know how was the summer, what has changed and what can they look forward to for the next 5 months. In anticipation of these questions here are some of the answers.

How was the Summer?

This past summer was hot, but with no hurricanes we were very happy with the weather and happy with our summer business. The summer gives us chance rest (for the first week) and start staff training and retraining so that we are always moving forward.

What has changed?

As I haven't written this blog in over three years I will just highlight some of things that have changed since my last post.

Bubba's has started to do more and more catering outside of the restaurant. We have done parties, weddings, corporate meeting and other events for companies such as Rooms-to-Go, Screenprint Plus, Balfour Beatty, and have a fundraiser coming up next year for the Naples Philharmonic. We have done parties as small as 10 and as large as 300 and can do even larger. We have a large grill which we can take almost anywhere and cook steaks, chicken and Ribs on site just for you. In addition to cooking on site we can also prepare food for delivery or pick-up for groups of 10 or more.

Over the summer we started a Kids eat Free night on Monday where all kids 12 and under can eat for free off of our special kids menu with the purchase of an adult meal.

Curbside Carry-Out has continued to grow in popularity. Give us a call at 239-282-5520 to place your order, drive to Bubba's and park in one of our specially marked spots at the front of the restaurant and we will bring your food right to your car. It's that easy.

Looking ahead

The remainder of this year and the start of next year are looking good and we can't wait to see our friends returning from the north. On November 8th we will be at the Taste of Town in Fort Myers featuring our BBQ Ribs, steak on a stick and fajitas. Our annual Holiday party will be on Thursday December 17th in the bar and all are invited. Bubba's has also added some lunch specials that rotate around each week, but all of them have received very positive comments. And most importantly to many of our guests, we have not changed our daily specials. They continue to be:

Sunday - Steak Tips for $7.99
Monday - 7oz Sirloin for $7.99
Tuesday - 2 for 1 Fajitas for $10.99
Wednesday - 2 for 1 BBQ Ribs for $19.99
Thursday - Prime Rib for $9.99
Friday - All you can eat Fried Fish for $9.99

Well that's all for now, look forward to seeing you soon at Bubba's Roadhouse.
